A good massager can provide the perfect way to unwind after a stressful day. Instead of having to beg your partner for a massage (which will invariably then require you to give them one in return), a massager allows you to administer your own treatment guilt-free and to let you design the massage yourself to ensure you are getting precisely the treatment you need to feel better.
If you have a crick in your neck, simply place the massager against your neck and say goodbye to that discomfort. If you want an all over massage, then just move the massager around your body as you please.
This is all possible with a device like the HoMedics HHP-350 but is this one really a good choice for the most relaxing and effective massage possible? Read the rest of this review and we’ll find out together!
The HoMedics HHP-350 is a handheld massager, which instantly tells you something about how you’re going to be using the thing. Unlike a massager that fits around a chair, this is one that you hold in one hand and that you can then apply yourself. This has both pros and cons. On the plus side, it of course means that you can enjoy the precise massage that you feel you need and you can reach places that a chair cannot. On the downside, it means you’re going to be reaching around behind yourself to get to those spots on your back – it certainly is not the best back massager on the block.
The design of this massager is rather functional. The colorscheme is a light brown, which certainly doesn’t look quite as slick as some of the other products available right now. The handle is ergonomically designed though and the most interesting feature is the ‘dual pivoting head’. That means that you will feel two points of pressure against yourself rather than just one, which changes the game rather compared with many similar products that only have one node at the end.
- The type of massage is described as ‘percussion’, though that doesn’t leave you as black and blue as you might be imagining at this point.
- You also have the option to change up the attachments on the end to pick from ‘firm, gentle or soothing heat’. The device also generates heat while you work it, but more on that in a moment.
- Another thing you’ll notice right away is that the HoMedics HHP-350 is a corded device. This is something of a nuisance as of course it means you’re going to be limited in terms of how and where you can use it. That’s simply reflective of the price though and whether or not it’s an issue for you will depend on where you plan on using it and how close you are to a power outlet.
Pros and Cons
This is a great product but certainly one that is going to appeal more to a certain type of user. The fact that you have dual head is a nice feature for instance, as it allows you to massage either side of your spine for example, or the ball and heel of your foot at the same time. Many people will be fans of this but the downside is that it can make it somewhat harder to reach more deeply into a single spot of muscle – as the second node can get in the way.
The heat function is a nice addition but is limited somewhat by the fact that it doesn’t come through the nodes that well. That means it will only really be fully effective on the ‘soothing heat’ function, which in turn means you can’t really get a deep shiatsu-style massage and heat – something that’s possible with many other products.
The cord is also a bit of a drawback, and of course you have to use your hands, and can’t sit on it. If this is important to you, i would recommend this massage chair pad.
The HoMedics HHP-350 definitely has some shortcomings then but for the right kind of user these shouldn’t be too restrictive. As long as you’re happy to use this near a power outlet and the heat function isn’t that important to you, it’s a great massager. And for the right application, that dual head will be a great bonus in fact!
